VisitBritain launches social media initiative

VisitBritain have appointed Digital Visitor as the official supplier of social media, video production and user generated content (UGC) for the tourist boards' new social media initiative.

The project has been put forth in direct response to the increasing need to gather and utilise visitor information, with UGC proven to be highly beneficial for many aspects of online marketing and promotion.

Known as Visitor Review, this social media platform enables online visitors to share their experiences by uploading photos, videos and comments, providing other website visitors with rich media content and the trustworthy tourist information they now search for. Through Visitor Review online visitors will be able to browse all content, add comments to other reviews, rate visitor experiences and more.

This enhancement will be extremely beneficial for tourist boards and regional tourism agencies all over the UK, allowing them the ability to gather rich media and user generated content on their own websites. Working with Digital Visitor, every tourist board and regional tourism agency will have its own branded social media solution.

Any media and content gathered on the individual tourism board websites will be presented on the VisitBritain site, significantly enhancing the exposure of the content and the online profile of the tourist boards and regional tourism agencies across the UK.

The partnership of Digital Visitor and VisitBritain is one of the first to have responded to the increase of social media on the internet. Justin Reid, Online Marketing Manager for VisitBritain stated, “It’s great to be working with Digital Visitor on this ambitious project. With our coordinated efforts we plan to really make the most of the growing trend for social media and user generated content. Providing potential visitors with more online information on Britain is one of our key strategies moving forward and this, we are sure, will encourage even more people to visit.”

Visitor Review is currently being used by a number of destinations, visitor attractions and venues across the UK, however the appointment by VisitBritain is seen as a big step by Digital Visitor. “I am delighted that our national tourist board has taken the leap with this initiative” expressed Anthony Rawlins, Managing Director of Digital Visitor. “As well as major tourism businesses in the UK, Visitor Review is being used by organisations in Australia, South Africa, Canada and Africa however VisitBritain is the first national tourist board to put such an emphasis on the value of their visitors’ comments.”

Visitor Review is already up and running on Visit Britain and the two organisations are developing a fully integrated solution which will be presented to tourism boards and regional tourism agencies across the UK over the next few months.
